Important Notice: Slovakia joined the Euro in 2009 and the Euro is now the legal currency

The official currency for the Slovak Republic until 2009 was the koruna which was divided into 100 halierov.

Currency regime

The Slovak koruna is not in the Exchange Rate Mechanism (ERM) as part of the European Monetary Union.

The koruna floats against the major currencies, although it is managed closely against the Euro by the central bank.
