Seychelles Rupee
The Seychelles officially uses the rupee as the local currency. One rupee is divided into 100 cents.
Currency regime
The rupee is fixed against the SDR which is effectively a basket of the dollar, Euro, Sterling and yen. Currency fluctuations should, therefore, be limited.
Commercial rates
As at March 23rd 2006, the rupee was trading around 5.52 against the dollar, 6.65 against the Euro and 9.62 against Sterling.
Tourist rates
On March 23rd 2006 the rupee was valued at around 9.38 against Sterling. For 1 UK pound you will, therefore, receive around 9.38 rupee.
Important note. There is an import limit of 100 rupees into the Seychelles. Travellers cheques and cash are best taken in US dollars
