Romanian leu
Romania officially uses the leu as the local currency. 1 leu is divided into 100 bani.
Currency regime
The Romanian leu floats against the major currencies.
Important note. The Leu was redenominated on July 1st 2005. The rate was change so that 10,000 leu was changed into 1 new leu. The old currency has no value.
Important note. It is prohibited to import the leu into Romania. Currency should be taken in US dollars. Travellers cheques should be taken in US dollars, although they have limited use in Romania.
