Pakistani rupee
Pakistan officially uses the rupee as the local currency. 1 rupee is divided into 100 paisa.
Currency regime
The rupee trades freely against major currencies with the central bank targeting inflation. The central bank does, however, intervene to limit currency fluctuations and the movements between the rupee and US dollar are relatively limited.
Commercial rates
As at March 10th 2006, the rupee was trading around 59.9 against the dollar, 71.2 against the Euro and 103.3 against Sterling.
Tourist rates
As at March 10th 2006, the rupee was trading around 100 against Sterling. For 1 UK pound you will therefore get around 100 rupees.
Important. It is only possible to take a notional 100 rupees into Pakistan and rupees are not readily available outside Pakistan. Travellers cheques and small amounts of cash should be taken in US dollars or Sterling.
