Nepalese rupee
Nepal officially uses the rupee as the local currency. 1 rupee is divided into 100 paisa.
Currency regime
The Nepalese rupee trades at a fixed rate of 1.60 against the Indian rupee and trades in generally narrow ranges against the dollar.
Commercial rates
As at April 12th 2006, the rupee was trading around 71.6 against the dollar, 86.5 against the Euro and 125.3 against Sterling.
Tourist rates
As at April 12th 2006, the rupee was valued around 122.0 against Sterling. For 1 UK pound you will receive around 122.0 rupees
Important. It is not possible to obtain Nepalese rupees outside Nepal or take rupees into Nepal. Cash should be taken in US dollars.
Travellers cheques should be taken in US dollars or Sterling.
