Moroccan Dirham
Morocco officially uses the dirham as the local currency. 1 dirham is divided into 100 centimes
Currency regime
The dirham is managed closely against the US dollar.
Commercial rates
As at July 30th 2007, the dirham was trading around 8.21 against the dollar, 11.21 against the Euro and 16.67 against Sterling.
Tourist rates
As at July 30th 2007, the dirham was valued at around 15.8 against Sterling. For 1 pound you will, therefore get around 15.8 dirhams
Important note. It is prohibited to take dirhams into or out of Morocco. Travellers cheques and small amounts of cash should be taken in US dollars or Sterling.
