Indonesian Rupiah
Indonesia officially uses the rupiah as the local currency. 1 rupiah is divided into 100 sen.
Currency regime
The rupiah trades freely against major currencies with the central bank targeting inflation, but also keeping a close eye on the currency. The rupiah is sensitive to international capital flows and tends to be volatile in the markets.
Commercial rates
As at February 16th 2006, the rupiah was trading around 9,225 against the dollar, 10,950 against the Euro and 15,996 against Sterling.
Tourist rates
On February 16th 2006, the Indonesian currency was valued at around 14,733 against Sterling. For 1 UK pound you will, therefore, receive around 14,733 rupiah.
Travellers cheques are best taken in US dollars. If you need to change currency locally, it is also worth taking US dollars.
