Hungarian forint

Hungary officially uses the forint as the local currency. 1 forint is divided into 100 fillér.

Currency regime

The Hungarian forint has a central rate against the Euro of 282.4 and the central bank allows the forint to fluctuate within a 15% range either side of this central rate. This is the same arrangement that applies in the Exchange Rate Mechanism (ERM), but Hungary is not formally in the ERM at this time.

Commercial rates

As at January 25th 2006, the forint was trading around 203.5 against the dollar, 249.8 against the Euro and 363.1 against Sterling

Tourist rates

On January 25th 2006 the Hungarian forint was valued at around 342 against Sterling.  For 1 UK pound you will, therefore, receive around 342 Hungarian forints.

Local currency is preferred to travellers cheques.
