Czech Koruna (crown)
The official currency for the Czech Republic is the koruna which is divided into 100 haler.
Currency regime
The Czech Republic is now part of the European Union. The Czech koruna is not yet in the Exchange Rate Mechanism (ERM) as part of the European Monetary Union.
The koruna floats against the major currencies, although it is managed closely against the Euro by the central bank.
Commercial rates
On January 25th 2006, the koruna was trading at around 23.3 against the US dollar, 28.6 against the Euro and 41.5 against Sterling.
Tourist rates
On January 25th 2006, the koruna was trading at around 38.9 against Sterling. For 1 UK pound you will, therefore, receive around 38.9 korunas.
Travellers cheques are best taken in US dollars.
