Greece (Euro)
Greece officially uses the Euro as the local currency having introduced Euro notes and coins at the beginning of 2002 and switched from the drachma. The Euro is divided into 100 cents.
Currency regime
The Euro floats against the other major currencies with the European Central Bank (ECB) targeting inflation rather than the exchange rate, although intervention will be considered in exceptional circumstances.
Commercial rates
As at June 16th, The Euro was trading around 1.2120 against the dollar and 0.6650 against Sterling (1.504 for Sterling/Euro)
Tourist rates
On June 16th 2005 the Euro was trading around 1.46 against Sterling. For 1 UK pound you will, therefore, receive around 1.46 Euros. You may also see the rate quoted in terms of Euro/Sterling rather than Sterling/Euro giving a rate of around 0.6850.
